About Kids Racing For Kids (KRFK)

Kids Racing for Kids is a charitable foundation developed around helping children shelters across the nation while instilling positive values into young racers.

Go-Kart racing is the grassroots of motorsports. Tim Self, founder of KRFK, introduced his son Austin to the racing industry at a young age. Knowing that racing is a privilege that not every child gets to be a part of, Self decided to develop a program that would promote positive values into the new generation of racers while giving back at the same time.

“I started this foundation not only to give back to children in need, but also to promote positive values in kids that aren’t always learned by what they’re taught in school,” said Self. “I wanted to partner with a racing organization with exposure so we could get attention to the foundation, while bringing exposure to karting in the communities we race in.”

In 2008, the decision was made to partner with World Karting Association (WKA). WKA is the foundation of motorsports and is one of the top national programs in the United States. To promote the mission statement of KRFK, the winners of Saturday’s premier Junior classes each donate $1,000 in their name to a children shelter at the following race event. The total amount donated at each event is $4,000.

“Partnering with WKA is such a huge opportunity for KRFK,” said Caroline Lobaugh, Manager of KRFK. “WKA focuses most of their program around families in racing. Being able to go to each event and donate money is not only exciting for us as a foundation, but for the junior drivers as well.”
